Notas de cata Tasting note

Very bright pale yellow wine. Yeasty and floral aromas. Its aging on lees makes it delicate, smooth, unctuous, and silky. Characterful and very elegant on the palate, with long aftertaste. Its aging under the climatic conditions of Sanlúcar gives the manzanilla a saline character and a characteristic bitter finish.

Información Supplementary information

Elaboration: After selecting first-press musts from our best vineyards, it goes through cold static decantation, fermentation at 22ºC and early lees removal. Subsequently, after classification based on finesse, the must is fortified to 15º with the best wine distillates to obtain the traditional ‘sobretablas’, which then enter the dynamic aging system of Criaderas and Soleras. A biological aging under flor yeast in cellars located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The Guadalquivir River, the Atlantic Ocean, and the marshland give a unique character to the wines aged in Sanlúcar, in this special microclimate where temperatures are milder and relative humidity higher. These singular conditions of temperature, humidity, as well as the influence of westerly winds combined with the height and orientation of the Sanlúcar Cellars, significantly influence the development of the flor and consequently, the aging of manzanilla on lees.

The Brand: The solera of Manzanilla Alegría comes from the historic Bodegas Pérez Megía founded in 1821 in Sanlúcar. These cellars were acquired in 1979 by the Medina family, who later incorporated this manzanilla brand into Williams Humbert’s portfolio.

Preguntas frecuentes FAQs

Manzanilla is a fortified wine from the Jerez region, specific to Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It is a dry, light, and fresh wine, made from the Palomino grape variety and aged under the criaderas and solera system, like fino, but with the particularity that it is aged on the coast, which gives it a more saline taste and sea breeze character.

The main difference between fino and manzanilla lies in the place of aging. While fino is aged in the Jerez region, manzanilla is aged in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, near the sea. This location influences its aromatic profile, giving manzanilla a saline and fresh characteristic not found in fino.

Manzanilla is served chilled, ideally between 7-9°C, in a wine glass or small glass. It’s perfect as an aperitif and pairs well with seafood, fish, Iberian ham, olives, or tapas. It can also be enjoyed on its own to appreciate its freshness and complexity.

Manzanilla has an alcohol content that generally ranges between 15% and 19%, similar to other fortified wines like fino.
