The Origins
The brandy Gran Duque de Alba was launched in 1945.
The agent of Bodegas Williams & Humbert in Madrid had a great friendship with Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó, XVII Duke of Alba, (father of the Duchess of Alba) and with the imminent launch of an exclusive brandy, he asked if he could name it after him.

The Name

After tasting it, the aristocrat was pleasantly impressed and suggested that for such a noble product, it would be more fitting to give it the name of his ancestor the Gran Duque de Alba, Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, who had enhanced the house of Alba and was an important historical figure. This is reflected in a written document authorizing the naming of the brandy with said name.
Brand Evolution
In 1973, a strong international campaign was launched, which included numerous trips to promote the brand. Additionally, Antoni Cumella, one of the great ceramicists of the 20th century with great international prestige, was commissioned to design a new bottle and cap.

New Design for the Gran Duque De Alba Range
In 2018, Williams & Humbert decided to renew the design of the Brandy Gran Duque de Alba range. The new presentation is an evolution of the previous one, with a more contemporary, distinguished, and refined approach, presented in a new bottle with excellent quality glass, a narrower base, thicker bottom, and more pronounced shoulders, giving it a stylized and exquisite appearance.
The objective is to ensure that the Brandy is associated with a contemporary, modern, and vibrant brand, while always ensuring that the new design remains true to our roots, and that consumers continue to identify this flagship brand of Williams & Humbert through this new design.
Williams & Humbert has tried to remain faithful to the origins of a design whose creativity is part of the house’s heritage. This evolution responds to the need to rejuvenate the brand and move it away from the stereotypical image of brandy as a classic or outdated drink, hoping that the final result will captivate our customers and that they perceive the countless possibilities this drink offers, ideal for both quiet after-dinner moments and grand evenings, excellent for savoring slowly sip by sip and also as a base for cocktails or mixed drinks.
